Our research

SMHS conducts high-quality research projects at a state, national and international level across all its hospitals and community health sites.

We believe in embedding research into clinical care by encouraging our staff to be curious and ask questions about how we can do things better, which can then lead to a formal research proposal. These collaborative projects often involve multi-disciplinary teams and include investigator initiated, non-commercial and commercial clinical trials (Phase I to IV), as well as non-clinical trials such as qualitative projects.

Watch our video to see how SMHS is creating a positive, inclusive and collaborative research culture that supports and enables researchers to conduct high quality research projects across all its sites.

Research Support and Development Unit

Based at Fiona Stanley Hospital, the centralised SMHS Research Support and Development Unit (RSDU) aims to:

  • improve the efficiency and quality of ethical review and site authorisation, especially for multi-site projects and clinical trials
  • support local clinical researchers to understand and meet their regulatory obligations.
