Facilities management services
Serco Australia will run all facilities management and support services at Fiona Stanley Hospital when it opens to patients in mid-2014. The contract was awarded to Serco Australia following 20 months of evaluation and negotiation.
Serco will provide the non-clinical services for the new public hospital in Murdoch, which will include catering, cleaning, linen, security, energy and utilities, estate and grounds maintenance, sterilisation, health records management, internal logistics, supplies management and reception services.
Serco Australia (external site) is a major organisation with local, national and international experience in facilities management.
The detailed evaluation that has taken place since the Government called for expressions of interest in November 2009 has demonstrated that the private sector’s innovative new approaches, state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated systems will lead to improvements in hospital services.
No permanent public sector member of staff will become redundant as a consequence of the decision to privatise non-clinical services at Fiona Stanley Hospital and those working in clinical services, including allied health professionals and mental health clinicians, will not be impacted by any contract with the private sector.

WA Health – a great place to work
The State Government is investing $5 billion to build new hospitals and improve existing hospitals throughout Western Australia.
The $1.76 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth’s southern suburbs is due for completion in late 2013, ahead of opening in 2014. It will need more than 3000 staff to deliver world-class health services in a large, state-of-the-art facility linked to private and public education and research facilities.
Expanded health services to meet growing community demand mean there will be more jobs available at more locations. The Department of Health will be doing everything it can to retain existing staff and attract new staff.
A Workforce Plan designed to help retain and attract some of the finest clinical and non-clinical staff to WA Health is now under development.
Be part of the team

If you’re not an existing WA Health Service employee and you’re interested in working at Fiona Stanley Hospital in particular, consider seeking employment in tertiary care services at Royal Perth Hospital or Fremantle Hospital, from where some services will be transferring to the new hospital.
