Planning
Planning for the new Fiona Stanley Hospital has been underway since 2005.
In July 2005, the Department of Health, in full consultation with the City of Melville and major stakeholders in the area, commenced the preparation of the Murdoch Activity Centre Structure Plan (external site). This was subsequently approved in February 2007 by the Western Australian Planning Commission and released in June 2007 by the State Government.
Master planning and schematic design are complete. Design development for the main hospital is complete. Detailed design development on the State rehabilitation service has commenced and will be finished in 2010.
Construction of the hospital buildings began in September 2009 and is expected to be finished in late 2013, ahead of the hospital’s opening in 2014.
Brookfield Multiplex was appointed as the managing contractor for the Stage One contract for design and construction of the hospital in March 2009. It is estimated that more than 10,000 people will be employed on the Fiona Stanley Hospital site over the life of the project.
