Planning
Planning for the new Fiona Stanley Hospital has been underway since 2005.
In July 2005, the Department of Health, in full consultation with the City of Melville and major stakeholders in the area, commenced the preparation of the Murdoch Activity Centre Structure Plan (external site). This was subsequently approved in February 2007 by the Western Australian Planning Commission and released in June 2007 by the State Government.
Master planning for the project is complete, schematic design is largely complete and the design development is continuing with clinicians and other stakeholders contributing through the consultation process.
Early site works (the first stage of clearing and bulk earthworks) commenced in July 2008 and will be completed in December 2009.
Brookfield Multiplex was appointed as the managing contractor for the Stage One contract for design and construction of the hospital in March 2009. Most of the 120-strong project management team has now moved to site, in preparation for construction to commence later in the year.
Construction completion is expected in late 2013 ahead of the hospital’s opening in 2014.
