Fiona Stanley Hospital

Accessible for all

Fiona Stanley Hospital is designed so that everyone can easily access all its facilities.

The hospital will be a short walking distance from the Murdoch bus and train (external site) station which has lifts and ramps from platforms. Frequent bus services will leave directly from Murdoch station to Fiona Stanley Hospital for those who are unable or prefer not to walk.

Street gradients, kerbing, pedestrian ramps, street finishes and shading will offer an easy and enjoyable commute to the hospital, whether travelling on foot, using a mobility device or by bicycle.

Inclined walkways or ramps will link the hospital, its road network, parking, public transport facilities and nearby health, education and research facilities. Inside the hospital, all levels will be accessible by lifts with separate lifts provided for public and patient use.

The central concourse will link all major areas of the hospital and make it easier for patients, visitors and staff to find their way around. The design will also include elements to help people orientate themselves.

This will be supported by lighting, contrasting colours for people with low vision and clear spatial logic. There will be clear, well-designed signage throughout the hospital.
