Site prepares for start of construction

The design of the $1.76 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital at Murdoch is now well progressed. Activity on the site has gathered momentum following the March appointment of Brookfield Multiplex as the managing contractor for the Stage One contract for design and construction of the new hospital.

Site clearing and bulk earthworks are complete in readiness for the start of construction of the main hospital buildings later this year. Most of the 120-strong project management team moved into the site office at the end of July, with the remainder to move on site in the coming months.

The 643-bed state-of-the-art hospital will be the major tertiary health facility in the south metropolitan area. It will offer first-rate health care services to communities in the south of Perth and across the state.

Due for construction completion in late 2013 and opening in 2014, the hospital will provide high level medical and teaching facilities.

Tertiary services provided at Fiona Stanley Hospital, supported by the network of general hospitals in the south metropolitan area, will see more appropriate care provided closer to home.

This project is the centrepiece of the State Government's health reform program (external site).
